The old IT room required an office refurbishment, which entailed total lighting replacement and some additional power sockets. The existing ceiling lights consisted of 65 standard and 15 emergency 600mm x 600mm recessed fittings with 4 x 18 watt, switch start, T8 fluorescent tubes, hard wired and installed into the suspended grid ceiling. This lighting needed to be replaced with a more energy efficient lighting system but still supplying the correct amount of light required for an office environment.
The ideal lighting replacement solution for this situation was the 34 watt 600mm x 600mm recessed modular LED light panel.
In total 80 LED light fittings including emergency units were installed into the ceiling, these fittings were wired using the Klik box distribution system. This type of system is a prefabricated wiring solution giving full lighting control of all lights and switching also enabling all emergency lights to easily tested. The existing old fluorescent tube lights use 4 x 18 watt tubes and if you include ballast losses each light could be using around 100 watts each. Compared to the 34 watts used by the new modular LED lights and multiplied by 80 units there are considerable cost and environmental savings to be made, in fact enough to say that in total the new replacement light fittings would pay for themselves within two years. New additional sockets were installed as per the client’s requirements.
